​WILL

​It's used for statements and predictions about the future. It often expresses the future as fact – so it's used for very strong opinions or predictions. It can also be used for instant decisions made at the time of speaking.

• ​In 100 years' time, everyone will have an electric car.

• ​​Sorry, I'm in a hurry. I'll take the car and you walk.

BE GOING TO

​Is used for present situations that extend into the future, or for something you want to do. There is often present evidence for the prediction.

​

• ​I'm going to graduate in four months.

• ​The school is going to open a cafeteria on campus.

• ​All my friends are going to travel on summer vacations, they already have the plane tickets.

​PRESENT CONTINUOUS

​It's used for arrangements. It's very similar to going to for intention.

​

• ​Johanna is having a party on Saturday.

• ​​I'm picking my mom at the airport at seven.

​Create a chart with three columns (will, be going to, present continuous) take a look at the next story and search for the verbs in future, categorize them in the chart. 

​​What are you going to do after university?

When I finish university I want to do lots of things! I am going to travel abroad to spend some time in France. I'm improving my French this semester and I think I will improve if I spend a few months living in a small town in the South of France. I am going to practice guitar every day because I won’t have to study every day. It is going to be so great! I am going to go to the beach every morning and swim in the sea. I am going to spend a lot of money there but I think I will be okay. 

When I come back from France I will get a job in my area here in Dublin. I would like to work for a big company and I will make a lot of money. I am going to rent a big apartment and have big parties with all my friends. We are going to have so much fun. I am going to miss my family when I go to France so I am going to invite my parents to my new apartment for dinner every weekend. It is going to be so cool!
