What are the Articles?
Articles are words that define a noun as specific or unspecific.
Basically, an article is an adjective. Like adjectives, articles modify nouns.

#Rule 1: The Articles "a"
a is used for words that start with a consonant.
example:
a car
a nurse
a hotel
a rainbow
a lion
a handsome man
a horse

and remember...
We do not use an indefinite article with plural nouns or uncountable nouns:
for examples: Plural nouns:
a cats
The cats/ cats
Uncountable nouns:
a sugar
sugar

The exceptions:
There are exception to the #rule 1:
there are words that even though they start with a consonant; you cannot use a as the article.
Those are the words that start with silent 'h'.
For examples: heir, hour, honour
for these words, you need to use : an + noun starts with silent 'h'
For examples: an heir, an hour, an honour

#Rule 2: The Article "an"
"an" is used for words that start with vowel [a,e,i,o,u].
Like "a', the article "an" is used only for Singular subject and we do not use them for Plural nouns or uncountable nouns.
For examples:
an apple
an aeroplane
an orange
an ink bottle
an umbrella

There are exceptions to #Rule 2:
For words that start with the sound/pronounciation "yu"; you have to use the article "a" instead.
for examples:
a university
a uniform
a european
a unit

#Rule 3: The Article "the"
"the" is used to state the specific, and uncountable nouns, like the sun or the ocean.
For examples:
This is an umbrella. The umbrella is colourful. (specific)
The sugar is so sweet. (uncountable)
The moon is really beautiful today. (specific)
