​First, we'll review long division.

​Dividing

​The answer to a division problem is the quotient.

​The number being divided is the dividend.

​

​We divide the dividend by the divisor to get the quotient.

​Dividing By a Power of 10

• ​Dividing is the inverse operation of multiplication.

• ​When we multiplied by a power of 10, we moved the decimal point to the right. Therefore to divide by a power of 10, we will move the decimal point to the left.

​Dividing with a Decimal Dividend

• ​Divide like normal.

• ​Make sure your digits are lined up neatly.

• ​When you have your quotient, scoot the decimal point straight up from the dividend to the quotient.
