​What is an engineer?

​An engineer is someone who designs solutions to meet a want or need.

​

​A solution is technology to meet a want or need. Technology is human-made solutions.

​Solutions are technology.

• ​All solutions meet a want or need.

• ​Anything humans created is technology.

• ​​Not all technology has to be electronic or complicated. Paper towels, shoes, computers, and TVs are all examples of technology.

​Solutions have criteria and constraints.

Criteria are what you want to solution to look like/have.

​For example, the criteria for a mask may be that you want it to look cool and be easy to breath in.

​

​Different problems have different limits.

Constraints are limits to possible solutions. For example, a mask can only be made out of a certain material or only cost less than $3.
