Authors use these marks to show exactly what characters are saying.

Quotation Mark Rules
Quotation marks go around the outside of spoken words.
You need a beginning mark and an end mark.
They go at the end of spoken words, not at the end of the sentence.
They do not go around the dialogue tag.
