​Definition (Pengertian)

​Descriptive Text adalah salah satu jenis text dalam Bahasa Inggris yang menggambarkan dengan jelas sifat-sifat yang melekat pada sesuatu, baik itu manusia, hewan, tumbuhan, suatu tempat mau pun benda mati lain yang bersifat TERTENTU, tidak bersifat UMUM.

Yang dimaksud OBJECT TERTENTU adalah object yang kita pilih untuk dideskripsikan (dijelaskan). Penjelasannya berisi tentang sekitar benda yang kita pilih, tidak melebar kepada benda lain yang tidak kita pilih.

​

Misalnya kita akan mendeskripsikan seseorang bernama “Mr. Albert”, maka pendeskripsiannya (penjelasannya) hanya tentang orang tersebut, tidak boleh melebar ke orang lain.

​Purpose

​Tujuan dari teks ini adalah memberikan informasi dengan jelas mengenai objek TERTENTU, yang digambarkan kepada pembaca. (to describe and reveal a particular person, place, or thing)

​IDENTIFICATION

​Bagian ini berisi tentang identifikasi (pengenalan) sesuatu object, baik makhluk hidup ataupun benda mati yang akan dideskripsikan (dijelaskan).

Misalnya :      - I have a new school bag.

                       - Bali is a very interesting island in Indonesia.

​Description

​Bagian ini berisi tentang penjelasan / penggambaran tentang object yang sudah dikenalkan pada kalimat sebelumnya dengan menyebutkan beberapa ciri-cirinya yang meliputi :

a)     Sifat fisiknya (misalnya tentang umur, ukuran, warna, bahan, dll)

b)     Karakter (pemurah, suka membantu, sabar, ceroboh, suka bermain, pemarah, dll)

c)     Kebiasaannya (berkaca mata, berjalan kaki kalau berangkat kerja/sekolah, kesukaan/hobby, dll)

​Language Features

​ Descriptive Text menggunakan attribute verb, seperti be (am, is, are)

​

• Descriptive Text menggunakan Simple Present tense

​

• Descriptive Text hanya fokus pada satu objek tersebut.

• Descriptive Tex menggunakan kata sifat atau adjective

​ð  Identification

I have a pet. It is a male cat. We usually call it Snow White

ð  Physical description (deskripsi fisik)

Snow White is a very lovely Persian cat. It is a big, male cat. The color of it fur is pure white that’s why we call it Snow White. It has very gentle and thick fur. This makes everyone wants to cuddle it. He has a round face with blue eyes and a flat nose.

ð  Habitual description (descripsi kebiasaan)

Snow White is big and fat. But it’s sound is not as big as it’s body. He likes to meows if he feels hungry or thirsty. He likes to eat cat food and drinks milk. He also likes to play with me after I go home from school. At night he usually sleeps with me in my bedroom.

My mother is 47 years old. Her name’s Anisa. She’s thin-faced and she’s got long, blond hair and beautiful green eyes. She is still slim because she always tries to stay in shape. She is very good-looking, always well-dressed and elegant.
