​ What is Production?

Production is the process of making, harvesting or creating something.

There are three main types of industry in which firms operate. These sectors form a chain of production which provides customers with finished goods or services.

​ Primary production

 This involves acquiring raw materials . Primary production can be classified as the "extractive" industry. These include the industries that produce or extract raw materials. Farmers are an example of primary sector workers, as food items are collected as raw materials, such as wheat and milk, and are taken from the farm and made into other products such as bread sometimes known as extractive production.

Other examples include mining, oil drilled from the ground, rubber tapped from trees, foodstuffs farmed and fish. In traditional economies, the primary sector usually represents the largest sector of employment.

This is the manufacturing and assembly process. It involves converting raw materials into components, for example, making plastics from oil. It also involves assembling the product, eg building houses, bridges and roads.

Assesbling  industries are engaged in bringing together various components or parts of bicycles, television, radio and these are some examples of assembling industries
