I. Pre-Colonial Period (-BC to 1564)
Indigenous PHILIPPINE LITERATURE was based on ORAL TRADITIONS and CUSTOMS.
Ancient literatures were written on PERISHABLE MATERIALS.
Literatures were handed down by WORD OF MOUTH.
Its evolution depended on the influences of colonization.
ALIBATA, the first Filipino alphabet, was replaced by the Roman alphabet.

II. Spanish Period (1565-1863)
