First, what is a gerund and an infinitive verb?
Gerund: derived from a verb but that functions as a noun, in English ending in -ing,
e.g., asking in do you mind my asking you?.
Infinitive: the basic form of a verb, it is not connected to a particular subject or tense.
e.g. to dance in Do you want to dance with me?

Now, why should we use gerund or infinitives?
Sometimes in a sentence, one verb follows another. For example, I want to buy an electric car. The first verb is 'want', the second verb is 'buy'.
However, the "second verb" functions as a nouns in a sentences, look!
He makes me share my food.
makes represents the actions that the subject performs.
share is not an action, it's just something / object.
