Investigation 3: The Force of Magnetism
Part 1: Magnets & Materials
2
The object is a magnet. It is called a permanent magnet because it is always magnetic.
3
What Objects Stick to Magnets?
a. Collect all the magnets from your group. Store them. You may not use the magnets during the predicting phase.
b. Get one bag of test objects. As a group, divide the objects into two identical sets of 19 objects each.
c. Work in groups. Each group sorts one set of objects into two piles:
Objects you think WILL stick to magnets Objects you think WON'T stick to magnets
d. Record your predictions on notebook sheet 19 and/or on the next slides.
e. Get your magnets and test your predictions.
f. Record the results.
