​What is This branch?

  • ​Also known as Congress.

​There are two parts to this branch.

  1. ​The House of Representitives

  1. ​The Senate.

​The House of Representatives

  • ​435 members

  • ​2 year terms

  • ​Must be 25 years old.

  • Must live in the U.S for at least 7 years.

  • ​100 Members

  • ​6 year terms

  • ​Must be 30 years old

  • ​Must live in the U.S for at least 9 years.

​Making laws

  • ​Must go throught the legislative proccess.

  • ​Step 1: Writie the bill>Law

  • ​Anyone can write a bill (Only congress can present it).

  • ​Step 2: Goes to an expert on the topic. (Go over pros and cons).

  • Step 3: ​Senate and House debate over the bill and then vote. Must have 2/3rds of both to be passed.

  • ​Step 4: President can sign the bill or Veto the bill.

  • ​(Veto) means to cancel or block. (It can still be challenged).

​Congress responcibilities

Another important congressional power is the power to declare war.

​They can also create budgets and tax citizens to pay for it.

Ratify treaties with other countries. They also confirm presidential candidates.
