In Spanish there are two questions we can use to ask somebody how they are feeling

You will choose one or the other depending on who you are talking to

media

8

¿Cómo estás tú?

How are you?

You ask this question when you talk to a peer or somebody you are familiar with. For example: friends at school or cousins

9

¿Cómo está usted?

How are you?

You ask this question when you talk to somebody you want to show respect. For example: teachers, school principal, and adults in general

10

"Usted" (Ud) and "tú"

both mean "you". We use "tú" in a more informal way to refer to peers and people we are familiar with. "Usted" is used in formal situations where we need to be polite

This is very important in Spanish. You do not want to be taken as a "rude" person because you used the wrong word

11

We also show respect when we address people

just like it happens in English, we do have ways to be polite when talking to people in Spanish.

Use the word "señor" to address males. We use "señora" (Sra.) to address married women, and we we "señorita" (Srta.) to address unmarried women.
