Prevent erosion

Protecting the watershed includes protecting your soil. Planting so that soil is secure keeps soil from moving away and protects it so that we can grow crops and other plants. It also saves the water from turbidity-- floating debri which make water quality poor and can make life for aquatic life more difficult

  • The heavier the sediment is, the faster it gets left on the shore. That is why large rocks are near the outside of rivers.

  • Small light sediment can be carried further because there is enough energy in the water flow.

  • Tiny pieces stay in the water until it is almost motionless, like in a lake or Bay
