​Kata, frasa, atau klausa yang dihubungkan haruslah sejajar atau memiliki struktur gramatikal yang sama, contohnya

• kata benda (noun) harus dipasangkan dengan kata benda (noun)

• kata kerja (verb) harus dipasangkan dengan kata kerja (verb)

• kata sifat (adjective) harus dipasangkan dengan kata sifat (adjective)

• dst.

Correlative conjunction juga memiliki sebutan lain, yaitu paired conjunction

​Pengertian

Correlative conjunction atau konjungsi berpasangan merupakan kata hubung yang berpasangan yang digunakan untuk menghubungkan dua kata, dua frasa, atau dua klausa.

​Berikut ini merupakan penggunaan dari correlative conjunction:

both … and;

not only … but also;

either … or;

neither … nor.

​1. both … and

both … and (baik … maupun …) ketika digunakan untuk menghubungkan dua buah subject maka verb yang mengikuti harus dalam bentuk plural.

contoh:

• Yesterday it not only rained but also snowed. → kedua verb dalam tenses yang sama, dengan struktur yang setara.
