​There are two types:

​Separable (the ones you CAN separate)

​Inseparable (the verb and the preposition are ALWAYS together.)

TIPS:

DON'T translate.

​As verbs PHRASAL VERBS can be used in ALL tenses.

​You CAN memorize them or memorize them :)

​INSEPARABLE PHRASAL VERBS

Warm up/wɔːrm ʌp/: Related with sports.It's to exercise/ prepare yourself BEFORE you do an activity or train.

​Ex: She always warms up for 10 minutes .

Take up /teɪk.ʌp/: Use it when you want to express that you START a new activity.

Ex: Most of the people have taken up meditation since COVID started.

​INSEPARABLE PHRASAL VERBS

Knock out/nɑːk aʊt/:It's to hit someone so the person becomes unconscious. Use it also when a equipment or system stops working.

​Ex: Her fall from the stairs knocked her out . (separable)

​That storm knocked out our electricity.(inseparable)

Take on/teɪk ɑːn/: To employ someone. To accept some work or responsability. To compete against someone.

Ex: We're not taking on any new staff at the moment.

​I am able to take on more work on weekends.

​Last Saturday Barcelona took on Argentina.

​INSEPARABLE PHRASAL VERBS

Give up/ɡɪv ʌp/: to stop doing an activity specially because it´s difficult.

​Ex: They are having trobles with maths, so they gave up high school.

Keep up with/kip ʌp wɪð/: Use it when you continue doing something for a period of time or to be informed.

Ex: He's never made his best to keep up with his relationship .

Work out/wɝːk aʊt/: to exercise or to be successful in a particular way.

​Ex: You work out in the gym twice a week.

​Hopefully her new stores is working out well.

​Join in /dʒɔɪn ɪn/: be invloved in an activity with other people.
