In this module, you will learn how the processes that occur along plate boundaries shape the physical features of the earth.

​There are three types of plate boundaries...

​1. Convergent plate boundaries

​2. Divergent plate boundaries

​3. Transform fault plate boundaries

​

​NOTE: Each of these boundaries is involved in the evolution of the Earth's surface.

​What are the geologic features of the earth and geological events associated with these processes?

​a. Volcanoes, mountains, trenches and islands are landforms created by processes associated with the convergence of plates.

​b. Rift valleys and ocean ridges are created by diverging plates.

​c. Undersea canyons and linear fault valleys are created in a transform boundary.

​Let's take a look on CONVERGING PLATE BOUNDARIES...

​Convergence - the movement of lithospheric plates toward each other.

​This type of convergence involves an oceanic plate and a continental plate.
