1. Describe the process of Radiation  

2.Explain how heat is transferred via radiation.

​Radiation

​- Does not require a material through which heat energy is transferred.

​- Heat is transferred through empty space (vacuum)

​

​What is empty space?

​​- A space containing nothing at all.

​

• Heat radiation consists of electromagnetic waves

• ​The hotter an object the more radiation it gives off 

​

• Objects absorb radiation from things around them 

• ​

• If an object absorbs more radiation than it gives off it warms up. 

• ​

• If an object radiates more heat than it absorbs, it cools down. 

​​the amount of heat radiated or absorbed by something depends on the color and type of its surface. 

​- Objects with dark dull surfaces absrob heat energy more readily than white and shiny surfaces which reflect it away.

​      White --- Reflects
