2
Objectives:
By the end of the session students will be able to:
1. Describe the process of Radiation
2.Explain how heat is transferred via radiation.
3
Radiation
- Does not require a material through which heat energy is transferred.
- Heat is transferred through empty space (vacuum)
What is empty space?
- A space containing nothing at all.
Heat radiation consists of electromagnetic waves
4
The hotter an object the more radiation it gives off
Objects absorb radiation from things around them
If an object absorbs more radiation than it gives off it warms up.
If an object radiates more heat than it absorbs, it cools down.
5
the amount of heat radiated or absorbed by something depends on the color and type of its surface.
- Objects with dark dull surfaces absrob heat energy more readily than white and shiny surfaces which reflect it away.
eg. black --absorbs
White --- Reflects
6
