​ All cells need energy to live. All organisms are either heterotrophs or autotrophs. Hetero means others troph means food. Heterotrophs must consume food for energy. Auto means self troph means food. Autotrophs can make their own food.

  • ​Plants, algae and cyanobacteria are the only organisms capable of performing photosynthesis.

  • ​They used light to make their own food, they are called PHOTOAUTOTROPHS (self-feeders using light)
