What is tag question?

We use tag questions when we want someone to confirm or agree with something that we think is true.

Tag questions have the same subject and helping verb as the sentence they follow. For example: It's nice, isn't it? Moby doesn't play the piano, does he? When the sentence is positive, the tag question is negative and when the sentence is negative, the tag question is positive

• ​Am/ Is / Are

Examples with the verb to be in present

• Luisa is your teacher, isn't she?

• Your mother is not a flight attendant, is she?

• Our dog is at the Vet, isn't it?

• You are ready for the exam, aren't you?

• I am a good student in French, am not ?

• ​You are not the lawyer, aren't you?

​Example with the auxiliaries DOES and DO

• ​You don't understand the topic, do you?

• ​They prepare the dinner, don't they?

• ​My mother travels to NY, doesn't she?

• ​We write a book, don't we?

​Examples with DID

• Yesterday you prepared ​the lunc, didn't you?

• ​Last week she didn't take a plane, did she?

• ​My parents watched a movie, didn't they?

Examples with Was and Were

• ​My sister and my dad were listening music, weren't they?

• ​He was reading a book, wasn't he?

• ​My dog wasn't running in the morning, was it?

• ​We weren't working hard, were we?

Examples with SHOULD

• ​They should visit the museum, shouldn't they?

• ​Viviana shouldn't go to the party. should they?
