Important Acts by J. Adams

The Naturalization Act increased the number of years it would take for a foreign born person to become a U.S. citizen. The Democratic-Republicans were none too happy about this. Many of their voters were foreign born and this would greatly reduce the number of voters.

In addition to this act, the Alien and Sedition Acts were also enacted. These acts curtailed free speech and allowed the president to deport any alien who he felt was dangerous because of their outspoken views or actions.
