NASA
NASA stands for National Aeronautics and Space Administration. NASA is a U.S. government agency that is responsible for science and technology related to air and space. NASA opened for business on Oct. 1, 1958. The agency was created to oversee U.S. space exploration and research. Most probably have no idea about how many different things the agency does. Astronauts in orbit conduct scientific research. Satellites help scientists learn more about Earth. Space probes study the solar system and beyond. NASA is also beginning a new program to send humans to explore the Moon and Mars. In addition to those major missions, NASA does many other things. The agency shares what it learns so that its information can make life better for people worldwide. For example, companies can use NASA discoveries to create new spinoff products.

Importance of Space Exploration
Have you ever wondered how space exploration affects your daily life? “Spinoffs” are commercial products and services derived from NASA technology or improved through NASA partnerships. These technologies—developed for the study of space and Earth—are responsible for billions of dollars in both revenue and saved costs, tens of thousands of jobs created, and improved quality of living across the United States and around the world.
6
Multiple Select
Wyy is space exploration important?
Creates new products
Finds new planets to live on
Provides a new place to send our trash
Creates Jobs
7
Nasa Spinoffs
People have used NASA technology to make common household products better. These products are called spinoffs. NASA spinoff technologies are commercial products and services which have been developed with the help of NASA and the space program.
8
NASA has made great accomplishments in space, but their research also makes a huge impact on Earth. Those achievements are called NASA Spinoffs and many have improved products people use on a daily basis.
9
Multiple Choice
What is a Spinoff?
An unmanned space craft that flies in circle
A planet that spins out of its orbit
Technology for everyday use created as a result of space technology
A product made just for use in space

Spinoff products- Memory Foam
NASA has created more than 2,000 spinoffs since 1976 — there’s more space in your life than you think! One example is memory foam. Memory foam was invented by our researchers looking for ways to keep its test pilots and astronauts comfortable as they experienced extreme acceleration. Today, memory foam cushions beds, chairs, couches, car and motorcycle seats, shoes and even football helmets.
11
Space Blankets
Have you ever seen the silver metallic blankets used in emergencies? It was originally developed to be a lightweight, yet strong, material to protect the delicate instruments (and crew) from extreme temperatures in space. Today they are used in first aid kits, camping equipment and many other applications.
12
Wireless Headsets
Wireless communication headsets were initially developed for astronauts during the Apollo Program and were instrumental for carrying Neil Armstrong's famous words from the Moon. This technology has continued to develop over the decades. Mobile headsets provide greater efficiency and flexibility for everyone from professionals conducting business to consumers playing video games.

Baby Forumula
Baby formula was created as part of an experiment for NASA. Baby formulas today contain ingredients were created when NASA ways to feed people during long space travel.
