Why choose whole grain?

According to MyPlate.gov

Whole grains contain the entire grain kernel ― .

Refined grains have been milled, a process that removes the bran and germ (which are 2 of the 3 parts of a grain kernal). This is done to give grains a finer texture and improve their shelf life, but it also removes dietary fiber, iron, and many B vitamins.

Choosing whole grains also may help reduce risk for many health issues such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
