In general, the Past Tense is used to talk about something that started and finished at a definite time in the past.

The main rule is that for every verb in English, there is only one form of it in the past tense.
(The exception is the Past tense of To Be, which has two forms: was and were)

Spelling rule#1:
Base form + -ed
Walk = Walked
Play = Played

Verbs ending in -e + -d
Love= Loved
Like = Liked

Spelling rule#3:
Verbs ending in a consonant + (-Y )
Change the (-Y) for -i + -ed
Carry= Carried
Study= Studied

Spelling rule#3:
Some verbs ending in a single consonant + the 2nd last letter is a vowel
(Double the last letter + -ed)
Plan = Planned
Stop= Stopped
