Level Settings in GSM

1. Changing the properties of a game space can create the need for new kinds of core mechanics.

2. You can design different game spaces by adjusting the level parameters.

3. Edge bounding and the wraparound space feature enable designers to create games that either rely on edges or create illusions of cylindrical space.

New Challenge Using Wraparound and Bounding

1. Create a game in Gamestar Mechanic using a single-screen game space.

2. Change it so that its space uses the following settings:

  Wraparound space

Set bounding to top/bottom bounded or left/right bounded

  Use gravity

Do not use bounded or an unbounded space for your project.

You need at least 2 openings per side - example Pac Man

How will your enemies move? You need to have points, time & health.

3. Have the students make any changes to the placement and number of sprites to make the game fun to play!

12

Things To Think About...

1. What adjustments did you have to make to the placement or type of sprites when you changed the space parameters?

2.How did the play of the game change from one kind of game space to another?

3.Are you able to grasp how edge bounding, in combination with wrapround space works?

4.Can you create a unique type of game space?

5. Can you use gravity in interesting ways as part of this exploration?

6.Can you discover any “cheats” for navigating your avatar through the space, such as sneaking their avatar outside of the game screen
