Learning Rates

What You're Doing In This Lesson:

  • Learning to do rates with ratios

  • Taking Notes

  • Getting ready to take a quiz

2

If there is a question like, "What is the rate if John drove 30 mph?" (mph means miles per hour) The way to write this would be 30 miles per 1 hour (other ways you can do this instead of "per" you can use 30 miles/1 hour). So instead of the ratio 30:1 its 30 miles per 1 hour.

Rates from Ratios:

3

It's all divided until 1...

When you get a question like, "At the carnival, George buys 16 hotdogs and it costs $4 in total, what is the rate?" In a problem like this you divide the two numbers such as 16 divided by 4 equals 4. So in this case the rate will be 4 hotdogs per 1 dollar.
