Definisi Adjective Clause dan Relative Pronoun

• ​Adjective clause (atau kadang disebut juga sebagai relative clause) adalah sebuah klausa yang berfungsi sebagai adjektif, dan dapat mengubah arti dari sebuah noun atau pronoun. ​Biasanya adjective clause selalu disertakan setelah pronouns yang bisa berfungsi sebagai objek atau subjek dalam sebuah kalimat.

• ​Relative Pronoun adalah pronoun (kata ganti) untuk membentuk relative clause (adjective clause).

​Kata ganti "who" digunakan sebagai kata ganti orang sebagai subjek. "Who" digunakan untuk menggabungkan dua kalimat dengan subjek yang sama.

​Contoh:

​1. The men are happy. The men work in the library

​2. The men who are happy work in the library

​

​Rumus cepat: who + verb/auxiliary

​Whom

​Kata ganti "whom" digunakan sebagai kata ganti orang sebagai objek.

​

​Contoh:

​1. The girls are dilligent. I do like the girls.

​2. The girls (i do like the girls) are diligent.

​3. The girls whom i do like are diligent

​

​Rumus cepat: whom + pronoun subject (i, you, we, they, she, he it)

​Whose

​Kata ganti "whose" digunakan sebagai kata ganti milik orang.

​

​Contoh 1.

​1. The dentist is with the boy. The boy's teeth are causing some problems

​2. The dentist is with the boy whose the teeth are causing some problems

​Contoh 2:

​1. This is Harry. His brother went to the school with me.

​2. This is Harry whose brother went to the school with me.

​Rumus cepat: whose + noun (kata benda, bisa nama orang atau benda)

​Kata ganti "which" digunakan sebagai kata ganti benda.

​Contoh:

​1. My family have the white cat. The white cat is our beloved cat.

​2. My family have the white cat which is our beloved cat.

That

​Kata ganti "that" digunakan sebagai kata ganti orang atau benda.

​Contoh 1:

​1. Daniel met somebody yesterday. He did the speech therapy course seven years after you.

​2. Daniel met somebody yesterday that did the speech therapy course seven years after you.

​Contoh 2:

​1. Hermione rides the train. The train arrives in the afternoon.

​2. Hermione rides the train that it arrives in the afternoon.

of Whom (Preposition + whom)

​Penggunaan of whom dapat digunakan sebagai kata ganti untuk orang (yang...nya). Relative pronoun ini dapat digunakan pada superlatives/ quantifiers/ numbers + of whom sebagai pengganti orang.

​

​contoh:

1. Jimmy has two sisters. I like all of them very much.

2. Jimmy has two sisters, all of whom i like very much.

​

​Pada kalimat di atas, all merupakan qualifiers, sedangkan penggunaan of whom sebagai pengganti orang sebagai objek.

of Which (Preposition + which)

​Penggunaan of whom dapat digunakan sebagai kata ganti untuk benda (yang...nya). Relative pronoun ini dapat digunakan pada superlatives/ quantifiers/ numbers + of which sebagai pengganti benda.

​contoh:

1. My father and I caught fish, the biggest of them was 20 pounds.

2. My father and I caught fish, the biggest of which was 20 pounds.

​

​Pada kalimat di atas, the biggest merupakan superlative, sedangkan penggunaan of which sebagai pengganti benda sebagai objek.
