Relationships between living things can be:
1. INTRASPECIFIC RELATIONSHIPS
RELACIONES INTRAESPECÍFICAS
2. INTERSPECIFIC RELATIONSHIPS
RELACIONES INTERSPECÍFICAS
3
1. INTRASPECIFIC RELATIONSHIPS happen between living things of the SAME species.
2. INTERSPECIFIC RELATIONSHIPS happen between living things of DIFFERENT species.

INTRASPECIFIC RELATIONSHIPS
· Reproduction -> Living things of the same species interact and breed to produce more members of their species.
9
INTRASPECIFIC RELATIONSHIPS
· Feeding -> Some species hunt in packs. A pack makes it possible to catch and kill larger animals for food.
10
INTRASPECIFIC RELATIONSHIPS
· Protection -> Some species of animals live in herds. The herd serves as protection against attacks by predators.

2. INTERSPECIFIC RELATIONSHIPS – RELACIONES INTERESPECÍFICAS
happen between living things of DIFFERENT species.
ocurren entre seres vivos de DISTINTAS especies.
can be: harmful to one species or beneficial to both species. Beneficial is more common.
are: predation, parasitism, mutualism and symbiosis.
son: depredación, parasitismo, mutualismo y simbiosis.

2 INTERSPECIFIC RELATIONSHIPS – RELACIONES INTERESPECÍFICAS
· Predation -> One organism kills and eats another. This is harmful to one species. Example: a bear eating a salmon.
· Depredación -> Un organismo mata y se come a otro. Esto es dañino para una especie. Ejemplo: un osos comiendo un salmón.
24
2. INTERSPECIFIC RELATIONSHIPS – RELACIONES INTERESPECÍFICAS
· Parasitism -> One organism lives in or on another, called host. This relationship is harmful to one species. Normally, the parasite doesn’t kill the host. Example: a flea on the skin of a dog.
25
2 INTERSPECIFIC RELATIONSHIPS – RELACIONES INTERESPECÍFICAS
· Mutualism -> This relationship is beneficial to both organisms. For example: bees feed on the nectar from flowers and that helps the plant reproduce.
26
2 INTERSPECIFIC RELATIONSHIPS – RELACIONES INTERESPECÍFICAS
· Symbiosis -> This is a close relationship between two organisms. Neither of them could survive in their environment without the other. They need each other to survive. This is a beneficial relationship. For example: lichens. Lichens are a symbiosis (= a union) of an alga and fungus.
