Do we use artificial intelligence?
How?
Where?
5
Today we will learn what artificial intelligence (AI) is and
how do we use AI in everyday life.
6
Artificial intelligence (AI)
is the ability of a computer program or a machine to think and learn.
It is also a field of study which tries to make computers "smart".
John McCarthy came up with the name "artificial intelligence" in 1955.
7
Multiple Choice
Artificial intelligence (AI) is
ability of a computer program or a machine to think and learn
ability of a computer program to work
ability of a machine to think
ability of a computer program or a machine to learn
8
Artificial intelligence (AI)
In general use, the term "artificial intelligence" denotes a machine which mimics human cognition.
Thought processes such as learning and problem solving can be done by computers, although not in the same way as humans do.
9
Multiple Choice
Artificial intelligence means
a machine which guesses the correct answers
a machine which creates human cognition
a machine which mimics human cognition
10
Artificial intelligence (AI)
An ideal (perfect) intelligent machine is a flexible agent which perceives its environment and takes actions to maximize its chance of success at some goal.
As machines become increasingly capable, mental facilities once thought to require intelligence are removed from the definition.
For example, optical character recognition is no longer perceived as an exemplar of "artificial intelligence": it is just a routine technology.
11
Multiple Choice
An intelligent machine perceives its environment and takes actions to
maximize its chance of success at some goal.
do a routine technology.
12
Artificial intelligence (AI)
At present we use the term artificial intelligence for
successfully understanding human speech
competing at a high level in strategic game systems (such as Chess)
self-driving cars and interpreting complex data
Some people also consider artificial intelligence a danger to humanity.
13
Multiple Choice
At present artificial intelligence does not entail:
interpretation of human speech
self-driving cars
interpretion of complex data
recognition of optical character
14
Open Ended
Self-driving cars are a successful example of artificial intelligence. Have you seen or drove in self-driving cars? Can you name the most famous self-driving cars?
15
Artificial intelligence (AI)
An extreme goal of AI research is to create computer programs that can learn, solve problems, and think logically.
In practice, however, most applications have picked on problems which computers can do well.
Searching data bases and doing calculations are things computers do better than people.
On the other hand, "perceiving its environment" in any real sense is way beyond present-day computing.
16
Artificial intelligence (AI)
Artificial intelligence involves many different fields like computer science, mathematics, linguistics, psychology, neuroscience and philosophy.
Researchers hope to create a "general artificial intelligence" which can solve many problems instead of focusing on just one.
Researchers are also trying to create creative and emotional artificial intelligence which can possibly empathize or create art.
17
Application of AI: Speech recognition
It is also known as automatic speech recognition (ASR), computer speech recognition, or speech-to-text their capability to process human speech into a written format.
Many mobile devices incorporate speech recognition into their systems to conduct voice search—e.g. Siri—or provide more accessibility with texting.
18
Application of AI: Customer service
Online chatbots are replacing human agents. They give answers to frequently asked questions about topics like shipping, cross-selling products or suggesting sizes for users and by doing so, changing the way we think about customer engagement across websites and social media platforms.
19
Application of AI: Computer vision
This AI technology enables computers and systems to bring out meaningful information from digital images, videos and other visual inputs and based on those inputs, it can take action.
Powered by neural networks, computer vision has applications within photo tagging in social media, radiology imaging in healthcare, and self-driving cars within the automotive industry.
20
Application of AI: Recommendation engines
By using past consumption behavior data, AI algorithms can help to discover data trends that can be used to develop more effective cross-selling strategies.
This is used to make relevant add-on recommendations to customers during the checkout process for online retailers.
21
Application of AI: Automated stock trading
Designed to optimize stock portfolios, AI-driven high-frequency trading platforms make thousands or even millions of trades per day without human intervention.
22

30
AI is a computer system which thinks and operates objectively.
Human approach:
Systems that think like humans
Systems that act like humans
Ideal approach:
Systems that think rationally
Systems that act rationally
