Simple Past Tense:
The simple past tense is used to describe a completed activity that started in the past and ended in the past.

How do we use Simple Past?
For Simple Past, we often add -ed or -d for the regular verbs.
For example:
walk - walked
enjoy - enjoyed
Irregular verbs on the other hand, the verbs usually changed the spelling and pronunciation; with few exceptions.
For example:
eat - ate
sing - sang

For example:
I went to work.
['Went' is the irregular past tense of 'go' ]

Mellisa and Joan accompanied their mother to a spa.

The past progressive tense otherwise known as Past Continuous Tense. It is used to describe an ongoing activity in the past. Often, it is used to set the scene for another action.

Past Progressive used past verb to be ( was/ were ) and present participle (verb + ing):
Was : Singular Noun (SN)/ he/she/it/ I
Were : Plural Noun (PN) /they/ we/ you

The past perfect tense is used to emphasize that an action was completed before another took place.

How do we used Past Perfect Tense?
-For Past Perfect, we used past Verb to Have 'had' followed by past participle.
-Past participle is usually the 3rd form of verb
for example:
eat - ate - eaten
drive - drove - driven
talk - talked - talked

The past perfect progressive tense is used to show that an ongoing action in the past has ended.

How we used Past Perfect Progressive Tense?
For this, we used:
Had been + Present Participle
