​We use ‘going to’ when we want to talk about a plan for the future.

​

• I’m going to see him later today.

• They’re going to launch it next month.

• We’re going to have lunch first.

• She’s going to see what she can do.

• I’m not going to talk for very long.

The last marketing-campaign was not really successful. The organisers of that campaign have therefore come together to discuss what went wrong.

Now they are explaining what's going to be different in the next campaign.​

​Infinitive of purpose

​You can use a ‘to infinitive’ to express the purpose of an action (why you do something). Look at the two examples below.

​

I went to the mechanic because I wanted him to fix my car. I went to the mechanic to fix my car.

​

​The meaning of the two sentences is the same. However, sentence 2, which contains an infinitive of purpose, is much more concise (short and easy to understand).

​

The infinitive of purpose answers the question ‘why?’

I went to the mechanic.

Why?

To fix my car.
