Purpose Clauses show why something happens
For example:
I am studying so I'll get a good grade on my test.
They're saving money to go to Europe.
In order to protect the children, social services was called.
Turn the oven down so that your bread doesn't burn.
Be careful not to trip.
I'm going to work hard so that doesn't happen again.
Will you come over for dinner? (for the purpose of eating dinner)
All of these things are happening ON PURPOSE.

Purpose clauses are subordinate (aka dependent) clauses. This means that they can't stand on their own. If you try to use a purpose clause by itself, it won't make sense. Go ahead, try it.
