What does it mean to annotate?
Annotating means adding notes, thoughts, questions, or symbols by giving explanations, providing definitions, asking questions, or making connections in the text.

Some tips when annotating
you can use mine or come up with your own
put a box around unfamiliar words
put a (*) on important or repeating ideas
Use a (?) question mark for passages you don't understand
Use an (!) point for ideas and passages that surprise you
write notes in the margins to record personal thoughts about the text or characters
Use arrows to connect ideas together
Write CD in passages were you notice character development
Write CI where you notice central ideas
Color!!!! Use different colors to help differentiate ideas
