​- Clear statement that says “this is how it looks from my perspective.”

examples:

“You always leave your mess lying everywhere.”

“I feel frustrated when I come home and the house is messy.”

“You don’t care about me or my feelings.”

“I feel frustrated/sad/invalidated when my feelings aren’t heard or acknowledged.”

Interrupting sends a variety of messages:

  • I'm more important than you are

  • What I have to say is more interesting

  • I don't care what you think

  • I don't have time for your opinion
