DOUBLE COMPARATIVES (SO SÁNH KÉP)

​The (more / less) + (noun / noun phrase) + Subject + Verb + , + the (more / less) + (noun) + Subject + verb. (1)

​ Example 1:

The more you study, the more you learn.

     => vế 1: không có danh từ/cụm danh từ trước chủ từ và động từ "you are".

     => vế 2: không có danh từ/cụm danh từ trước chủ từ và động từ "you learn".

​The (more / less) + (noun / noun phrase) + Subject + Verb + , + the (more / less) + (noun) + Subject + verb. (1)

​ Example 2:

The more time you take, the better the assignment your turn in.

     => vế 1: có danh từ "time" trước chủ từ và động từ "you take".

     => vế 2: có cụm danh từ "the assignment" trước chủ từ và động từ "you turn in".

​The (more / less) + (noun / noun phrase) + Subject + Verb + , + the (more / less) + (noun) + Subject + verb. (1)

​ Example 3:

The less money I spend, the less I have to worry about saving.

      => vế 1: có danh từ "money"  trước chủ từ và động từ "I spend".

      => vế 2: không có danh từ/cụm danh từ trước chủ từ và động từ "I have".

​ Example 4:

The less you worry about the others, the less they will bother you.

      => vế 1: không có danh từ/cụm danh từ trước chủ từ và động từ "you worry".

      => vế 2: không có danh từ/cụm danh từ trước chủ từ và động từ "they will".

Lưu ý:

Các ví dụ trên, "more" và "less" được dùng để so sánh các hành động (động từ chỉ hành động), không so sánh các tính từ.

2. Có thể so sánh các tính từ theo cấu trúc:

The + comparative adjective + to be , + the + comparative adjective + subject + verb + (infinitive of purpose)

​Example 1:

The easier the test is, the longer students will wait to prepare.

     => vế 1: có tính từ so sánh hơn "the easier" trước chủ từ và động từ "the test is".

     => vế 2: có tính từ so sánh hơn "the longer" trước chủ từ và động từ "students will wait".

2. Có thể so sánh các tính từ theo cấu trúc:

The + comparative adjective + to be , + the + comparative adjective + subject + verb + (infinitive of purpose)

​Example 2:

​The faster the car is, the more dangerous it is to drive.

     => vế 1: có tính từ so sánh hơn "the faster" trước chủ từ và động từ "the car is".

     => vế 2: có tính từ so sánh hơn "the more dangerous" trước chủ từ và động từ "it is".

2.So sánh các tính từ theo cấu trúc:

3. Hai cấu trúc (1) và (2) có thể trộn lẫn với nhau

​

The + comparative adjective + Subject + Verb, 

the more/less + (noun/noun phrase) + Subject + Verb."

​Example

​ The richer the person is, the more privilege he enjoys.

     The happier the child is, the more the mom can relax.

     The more dangerous the amusement park ride is, the less management worries about making a profit.

​4. So sánh kép thường được rút gọn trong văn nói, đặc biệt khi được dùng như lời nói rập khuôn.

                    "The more the merrier."

Có nghĩa là: "The more people there are, the merrier everyone will be."

​

5. So sánh kép cũng có thể biến đổi thành các mệnh lệnh khi đề nghị/khuyên bảo các hành động nào đó.

       Study more, learn more.

       Play less, study more.

       Work more, save more.

       Think harder, get smarter.
