• After watching the video, please answer the question in your notes: How did locals in Singapore react towards the British return to Singapore to take over the governance of Singapore? Why?

​Return of the British [pg. 15]

• ​The return of British rule was established with the British Military Administration (BMA), which was run by the British military and former European civil servants.

• The BMA took over the administration of Singapore and Malaya from 5 September 1945 to 21 March 1946 and aimed to help with reconstruction, and to maintain law and order. However, the BMA, had to face the challenges of handling a variety of problems.

  We shall find out more about the problems they face and how they sought to address them.
