Citing Informative Evidence

2
What is citing evidence?
Citing evidence is when you take information from another source (a book, a website, a video, etc.) and use it for your own essay.
In order to do this correctly, your citation has to have quotation marks " " around it and the author's last name in parenthesis at the end.
3
Example:
I found an article about bats and why they are treated like they are endangered when they are not. Here is the link: https://www.greenmatters.com/p/why-are-bats-protected
Author's Name: Sophie Hirsh
Quote: "without bats, plant species that rely on their pollination and seed dispersal efforts would struggle to survive, and farmers would have to use even more pesticides than they already do."
Correct Citation (Transition, Lead-in, Quote, Citation):
Furthermore, bats are important for the enviornment because "without bats, plant species that rely on their pollination and seed dispersal efforts would struggle to survive, and farmers would have to use even more pesticides than they already do," (Hirsh).

IMPORTANT:
Evidence belongs IN THE MIDDLE of your body paragraphs!
It should not be the first sentence of your body paragraph!
It should not be the last sentence of your body paragraph!
Every paragraph needs at least one piece of evidence!
11
But...my evidence is too long
Or: My evidence is worded different than I want to use it!
Change the words!
We call that: Paraphrasing.
Example:
One reason that bats are important is because they are responsible for carrying pollen to certain plants. These plants would die without a bat's help (Hirsh).
