​Features of a cover letter (Adams, 2012)

 Dateline. This contains to when you wrote the application letter.

 Inside address. This contains the full name and title of the hiring manager of the company and the company’s name and address.

 Salutation. This phrase typically begins with the word Dear and is punctuated with a colon. The word Dear is usually followed by the title of the hiring manager and the hiring manager’s last name.

 Body. This part emphasizes your strongest points and shows how you meet the employer’s needs. It is also essential to highlight the benefits that the organization will get from accepting you.

 First paragraph (introduction)-the job applicant states his or her purpose in writing the cover letter.

​ Second paragraph (main body)-the job applicant highlights one or two of his or her skills that are relevant to the job.

 Third paragraph (conclusion)-the job applicant encourages the hiring manager to view his or her resumé, which is attached to the letter.

​Inquiry letter- a prospective buyer writes this type of a business letter to a seller to inquire about the offered merchandise.

​Order letter- a buyer writes this letter to place an order if he or she intends to purchase.

​Complaint letter- a business correspondence written by the buyer about a problem with the products received.

​Recovery letter- a seller writes this letter to the buyer to collect payment for the products purchased.
