Japan rapidly modernised during the late 1800s. Made possible by a centralised government, investment in education and a sense of nationalism. However. Japan's limited geography meant it needed to import vital resources for its modernisation, such as, oil and metal. Japan resolution to agressively push imperialistic intentions was in part to ensure access to needed resources.
