Identifying a Function
All functions allow for each INPUT TO ONLY HAVE ONE OUTPUT.
When it comes to TABLES, POINTS, MAPPING DIAGRAMS: As long as the x-value does NOT REPEAT, we tend to have a function.
When it comes to GRAPHS, the graphs HAVE TO PASS THE VERTICAL LINE TEST. Our vertical line can only touch the graph ONCE for the graph to be a function.

Domain & Range
Functions have INPUTS and OUTPUTS.
We can call INPUTS, x-values, and INDEPENDENT VARIABLES.
We can call OUTPUTS, y -values, and DEPENDENT VARIABLES.
DOMAIN: Has ALL the INPUTS of a function.
RANGE: Has ALL the OUTPUTS of a function.
EXAMPLE:
Domain: { 1,2,3,4 }
Range: {2,4,6,8}
Sneak peak of this week:
Domain: All numbers from 0 to 4.
Range: All numbers from 0 to 4.

Function Values/Tables
We can represent functions with equations.
EXAMPLE: f(x) = x + 2 is a function that adds 2 to every input. If we need to find f(1), then f(1) = 1 + 2 = 3
EXAMPLE: f(x) = 3x -2 is a function that multiplies 3 to every input then subtracts by 2.
If we need to f(2) then, f(2) = 3(2) - 2 = 6 - 2 = 4.
We can organize function values with function tables!
