In literature courses, we study three main types of setting: physical, geographical, and historical. This class is a study of literature with an emphasis on historical setting.
Instead of analyzing historical events, we are analyzing the influence of historical events on pieces of literature.
A repeated objective in each of our units is: Assess the literary contributions of each author assigned. This will guide us in deciding which details of the time period/major events are significant to our analysis.
It is essential to frame the time period/events from the literary perspective we cover in our textbook, analysis, and discussions.

Summary of Notetaking Strategies
1. Create a master list of texts for the unit of study
2. Create a section with space for each author
3. Scan the informational text. Eliminate sections that mention authors who are not on this list.
4. Scan the informational text for information on authors on the list. Take notes on those details.
5. Visit the informational text on each specific author and take notes on significant details.
6. Break the informational text into smaller sections and develop guiding questions for those sections.
