What is a clause?
A clause is a part of a sentence with a subject and a verb. In the examples, the subject + verb in the first clause is blue, and green in the second.
You can eat now, or you can wait for everyone else to arrive.
I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow, so I might be late for work.
She's feeling sick, so she will stay home tonight.

When do we use or?
OR is used to show two or more different choices.
Examples:
You can have coffee, or you can have tea.
Should we drive, or should we take a taxi?
She can pay with cash, or she can use a credit card.

When do we use so?
SO is used to show a result.
Examples:
I didn't have cash, so I used a credit card.
I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow, so I might be late for work.
I'm feeling sick, so I will stay home tonight.

When do we use so?
SO is just like because, but in reverse.
Examples:
I didn't have cash, so I used a credit card.
I used a credit card because I didn't have cash.
