Welcome to the 3rd lesson about healthy eating!

Have you done something different lately because of the last two lessons? If so, what was it?

3

Maybe you haven't done anything different since the the last lesson, even though you want to.

Many people struggle with this: they want to eat healthier, and they know what to eat and what not to eat. But somehow they keep making the wrong choices!

Has this happened to you?

This lesson you will get some help with making the right choices

The central question in this lesson is: How do I keep eating the right foods?

And the goal for this lesson is: You can make a list of decisions that will make eating healthy easier.

The next piece of text is from an article you will read this lesson:

Most people think that building better habits or changing your actions is all about willpower or motivation. But the more I learn, the more I believe that the number one driver of behavior change is your environment.

Your environment has an incredible ability to shape your behavior. Nowhere is this more true than with food. What we eat on a daily basis is often a result of what we are presented.

Do you remember the video in the last lesson?

(hint: it had something to do with your environment)

You are not going to read the entire article. Only the following parts:

What Should I Eat?

Two Simple Ways to Eat Healthy

How to Eat Whatever You Want Without Feeling Guilty

But first, take a look at 5 words and a strategy that will help you with the article.

In the next article you will learn how you can make it easier for yourself to eat healthy.

6

5 words that will help you with the article

Greens = groenten

'My mother always told me to eat my greens'

Variety = verscheidenheid

'You should eat a variety of foods if you want to get all the nutrients you need'.

Grocery store = supermarkt

'The choices of food you can buy at the grocery store seem endless sometimes.'

Aisles = gangpaden

'I like to go to the grocery store to just walk around the aisles and see what is there.'

Habits = gewoonten

'If you create the right eating habits, making the right choice is automatic.'

The writer of a text always has a certain purpose in mind. It can help you understand the text better if you determine this purpose. Sometimes a text has more than one purpose. Take a look at the grid below and while reading the article think about what the purpose of the text is.

The final activity of this lesson is to make a list of decisions that will make it easier for you to eat healthy. You can write about the things you've learned in this and the previous lessons. You can also come up with your own.

In the next slide you learn how you can make the right sentences for this kind of list.

12

If you want to write or speak about something that you've decided to do in the future, you can use 'going to' and 'will'. Some examples:

  1. From now on, I will only buy healthy food.

  2. I am going to refuse any unhealthy food I am offered by others.

  3. I will make it more fun by eating a variety of foods.

At the end of this lesson, you will write a list of tricks that you will try to make eating healthy easier. For this, you have to use 'going to' and 'will'.
