​should ｢予言」「命令」のshallの過去形 「万が一/ひょっとして」​

shallは、環境、自然などの超越的意志(人間にはどうにもならない宿命のようなもの)を意味する → 話者の意志とは無関係で、「実現性が低い」と話者が考えていることについて使われる。

「万が一あれば/起こったら」→ 主節は​現在形・未来形の場合も​

were to​ be to 不定詞の過去形　「仮に」​

もともと be to不定詞は「確実性のある未来」を表す。→ 過去形だと現実との距離を表す＝「実現性が低い未来」→「起こることはまずない/全くない」と話者が考えていることや空想上の仮定に使われる。

「(仮に)起こるとしたら/としても」​→ 主節は必ず過去形の助動詞
