Independent Clause

is a complete thought that can stand alone as a sentence.​

Types of Clauses

Dependent Clause

are not complete thoughts and cannot stand alone as a sentence.​ Dependent clauses are also known as subordinate clauses.

Examples:​​

  • after we pick up Kevin from work

  • when the teacher arrives

  • whenever you come to visit
