By Jelyn Conrad

2

Objective:

By Jelyn Conrad

Students compare and interpret rational numbers' order on the number line, making statements that relate the numbers' location on the number line to their order. Students apply their prerequisite knowledge of place value, decimals, and fractions to compare integers and other rational numbers. Students relate integers and other rational numbers to real-world situations and problems.

Steps when ordering rational numbers:

By Jelyn Conrad

To Order Fractions, Decimals & Percents:

  1. Convert all numbers to a common format. (Hint: look for the conversion that is easiest)

  2. Put them in the required ordered. (Least to Greatest or Greatest to Least)

  3. Rewrite in the original format.

4

Example 1:

Mrs. Smith bought 3 packages of ground beef at the supermarket. The weights of the packages were 2.41 pounds, 12/3 pounds, 22/5 pounds, and 1.62 pounds. Put the packages in order from least to greatest on a number line. Justify your thinking.
