Lunar New Year is celebrated around January or February every year. It is based on the Lunar calendar

Thousands of years ago, a monster named 'Nian' would destroy villages and hurt little children. It was a chaos.
The Story of Nian
One day, a man advised all to put up red lanterns in front of their houses and wear red clothes.
The man said, at midnight, they should light firecrackers too. When 'Nian' came, it couldn't attack villagers nor the houses. It was afraid of the colour red and the noise.
