• To find the area of a rectangle it is length times width.

• To find the area of a square you can do the same - length times width or side times side.

• REMEMBER you are dealing with squared units. Whether it is inches, feet, yards, cm, mm, m of miles - it will be squared units.

Area of a Rectangle and Square

​So let's take this rectangle - it has a width of 7 inches and a length of 10 inches. So you would take 7 x 10 = 70 inches squared.

​Now remember back to the second slide. Area of a square is still length times width or side times side. So let's take this square - it has a side of 3 cm. So it will be 3 x 3 = 9 cm squared.
