The belief that the mind, ideas, and reason are primary
Metaphysics: Nothing exist or is real except for an idea in the mind of the thing.
Epistemology: Come to know by mastering Logic and Reasoning
Axiology: Values are absolute and apply to all people throughout history (eternal)
Educational Implications: The study of Literature, Art and Philosophy, anything that explores what it means to be Human.

Aristotle
The belief that matter and the study of the natural world are primary
Metaphysics: Reality is composed of both matter and what can be observed in the natural world.
Epistemology: Knowledge is obtained by studying the natural world using the sense (sense realism) and the scientific method.
Axiology: There are natural and moral laws that govern the world.
Educational Implications: The study of the Science and our place in the world.

St. Thomas Aquinas
The belief that mind and matter are created by God, who can be known through faith and reason
Metaphysics: God created the natural world and humankind.
Epistemology: We learn about God and the world he created by faith and developing our capacity to reason.
Axiology: There are there are absolute moral laws determined by God.
Educational Implications: Knowing ourselves and the world through god. Religion.
Neo Thomism

The belief that real world experience or the things that work in the real world are primary
Metaphysics: Reality is derived from your experiences
Epistemology: Knowledge or truth is not absolute and discovered through experience or scientific inquiry
Axiology: Values are tentative (not absolute) and determined by whatever works in society.
Educational Implications: Project based learning, Labs/activities that reflect real world skills/abilities. Learning by Doing

Soren Kierkegaard
The belief that every individual has a personal and subjective existence.
Metaphysics: Every individual has their own reality and must create their own meaning or purpose.
Epistemology: Knowledge is determined by the individual.
Axiology: Believe there are no absolute values and individuals determines their values by choices they make.
Educational Implications: Individualized Instruction, Mastery Learning, Allowing choice in assignments. IEPs, Response to Intervention (RTI)
