What are the properties of matter?
By Mrs . ASM I ABDUL LATHEEF
ACADEMIC YEAR - 2021-2022
2
OBJECTIVES
1. Explore properties of matter.
2. Compare substances based on their physical properties.
3. Define the term mixture.
4. Define the term solution.
5. Explain what affects the rate of dissolving.
6. Identify ways to separate mixtures.
7. Relate the properties of mixtures with the properties.
3
Open Ended
what is matter?

Multiple Choice
Which of these following is an example for physical property of matter
Volume
Mass
State of matter
All of these
5
Multiple Choice

7
MATTER
Matter is every thing around us that has a mass and takes up space.
8
Physical properties are characteristics that can be observed or measured
Mass and volume are examples of physical properties.
The other physical properties are Color, Size , state , Shape , Texture like Flexibility, Hardness, softness
magnetic properties and conductivity , reflectivity .
9
MASS : The amount of matter in an object
Volume : Amount of space an object takes up
10
11
Hardness and softness
12
Property of matter related to the amount of light that a material reflects.
Reflectivity
13
FLEXIBILITY/ MALLEABILITY
It describes how easily something can be
bent or can be easily shaped into different forms without breaking.
14
MAGNETIC PROPERTY
The force of attraction or repulsion between substances made of certain materials, such as iron, steel etc
Like poles of the magnet repel each other and unlike poles attract each other.

Now let us do some activities
Go to your teams and do the activities assigned on your channel
19
20
Materials that conduct heat or electricity are known as Conductors. All metals are conductors. Eg : Silver, gold , copper,Sea water, steel, iron etc
Materials that do not conduct heat or electricity are known as insulators.
Eg : plastic , Wood , Paper , Rubber , Glass etc
