Introduction

4

Definition

A web-based application is any program that is accessed over a network connection using HTTP, rather than existing within a device’s memory.

Web-based applications often run inside a web browser. However, web-based applications also may be client-based, where a small part of the program is downloaded to a user’s desktop, but processing is done over the internet on an external server.

Web-based applications are also known as web apps.

5

6

Web tools provide enormous opportunities for teaching and learning.

It is no longer possible for teachers to ignore such a technological advance, while they are expected to provide students with opportunities to take control of their learning.

7

Why use web-based tools for teaching

You can increase student engagement, expose them to authentic content, and engage them in collaborative activities that trigger critical thinking and creativity.

8

Web-based tools can be used for:

  • task structuring support: help with how to do a task (procedures and processes),

  • access to knowledge bases (help user find information needed)

  • alternate forms of knowledge representation (multiple representations of knowledge, e.g. video, audio, text, image, data)

9

Goal of this presentation

Sharing our experiences of teaching using some of the Web-Base tools listed below.

  1. EdPuzzle

  2. Quizziz

  3. Zipgrade

11

How do teachers use EDpuzzle?

With Edpuzzle, you can make any video your lesson in three easy steps:

Find a video on YouTube, upload your own or re-use a video lesson created by another teacher. Then, edit the video to create your lesson.

Record your voice to personalize it, and hold your students accountable by embedding questions in the video.

12

Why do teachers use EDpuzzle?

EdPuzzle is the perfect tool for allowing students to watch and engage with videos while the teacher gathers data throughout the lesson.

As teachers dabble into the flipped classroom philosophy, EdPuzzle is the perfect enhancement tool for videos to be watched at home instead of eating up valuable class time.

Some of the advantages of using web-tools for teaching are:

1- They are cost-effective by reducing the amount of printed materials to be delivered to the students, the instructor can update any of the materials without the need to print or reprint.

2- Facilitate the distance learning, students who are missing class or need to review more than once any of this materials can have access to them at their own time/pace.

3- Offer more opportunities for equity, many more students can have access to quality materials for their instructions.

32

Conclusion

The teaching process has changed and the pandemic has accelerated those changes.

Without a doubt, teaching using online resources is something that is here to stay. The faster we learn to use these tools the sooner we can promote the development of our students.

33

“I believe that the integration of information technology in education will be further accelerated and that online education will eventually become an integral component of school education,“

Wang Tao, Vice President of Tencent Cloud and Vice President of Tencent Education
